That's right...Nathan is four months old already! He's still just the sweetest little thing you could ever imagine. He's different than our other babies in his sleep habits. He's the hardest to settle down for bedtime. For example, on a recent night, I put him in bed and he fell asleep, then a half hour later he woke up and I nursed him to sleep, then a half hour later he woke up and I rocked him to sleep, then a half hour later he woke up and I gave him his binky...six times...THEN he was asleep for good. Not every night is this crazy (in fact the last few nights have been pretty smooth), but it's a far cry from the simplicity of bedtime we enjoyed with our other babies. BUT, once he's finally asleep, a miracle happens...he stays that way for the whole night! For the past three weeks, he's slept through the night--8 to 11 hours in a row--most nights. It's been awesome. I've never experienced anything close to this with a three-month-old, and I'm trying not to get my hopes up, since any number of occurrences, from teething to ear infections to a new trick like sitting up, could foul it up.
Anyway, we all adore Nathan. His cuteness and popularity in our family haven't worn off yet! He's so cuddly and smiley. Yesterday I took a nap with him on the couch, and it was heaven. He's very strong, and he likes to stand up on my lap and loves to look around. He's beginning to suck his hand, fingers, and thumb, though I'm not sure it's a habit that will stick. He can roll from his stomach to his back (he's been doing that since he was about two weeks old, like Samuel.) The kids keep wondering when he's going to learn more tricks. When he was three days old, Joey went into his room "to check if he could walk or crawl yet." He still hasn't mastered those skills, but he can bat at his toys and grab and hold them in his fist. He also likes to squeal in delight and smile and aah at his brothers.
Here are a few pictures from today and this week:
This is what happens when I try to prop him up in a chair...he doesn't fall off, but he does end up upside down. He doesn't seem to mind, though!
Look at those inquisitive eyes!
SO CUTE
He looks a lot like baby Joey in this picture!
Is this not the cutest baby, with the bluest eyes, you've ever seen? He's perfect!
Okay, I know I look less than attractive here. But I LOVE holding him up against my cheek like this because his skin is SO soft. It doesn't look like he's sharing the sentiment.
Happy four-month birthday, Nathan. We are SO grateful to have you, our little gift from heaven, in our family!
